The Development and Community Relations Coordinator is responsible for the general oversight and direction for the agency's fundraising, development, marketing and public relations functions.

Essential Functions:

  • Works with the Development and Community Relations Manager to create and execute a strategic funding and marketing plan in collaboration with the Executive Director and Senior Management. These activities include fundraising, legacy/gift giving, grant writing, public relations strategies, electronic and social media strategies, and traditional print and advertising mediums.
  • Responsible for the development and coordination of fund development, including cultivating and maintaining partnerships with businesses and supporters, annual fundraising plans, special events, legacy donations, community fundraising activity and grant writing projects. Ensure all special events achieve/exceed revenue goal by implementing industry best practices for recruiting event committees, teams, sponsors, and individuals to grow stakeholder base.
  • Coordinates grant writing activities for all programs to ensure that applications are submitted to the appropriate grantor and are written according to the grant requirements and reported according to the grant specifications.
  • Aggressively seeks new corporate and foundation funding and maintain relationships with current and past donors. Updates all donor information and provides to management team and boards as requested. Lead special projects and experiences to engage donors.
  • Assists in the design and management of public relations of The Society brand. Responsible for marketing and communications on all platforms to maximize public awareness of the agency, promote fundraising, support advocacy efforts and educate on disability issues.   • Oversees donor database and donor correspondence.
  • Builds strong, collaborative cross-functional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represents The Society with a professional attitude and positive intention while promoting effective internal and external relationships, communication and advocacy. Serves as a self-motivated, dependable, flexible and collaborative leader.
  • Adheres to The Society’s policies and acts as a role model in adherence to these policies.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Bona-fide Occupationally Required Competencies and Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, or related field (preferred) or 3 years experience in marketing, fundraising and development.
  • Must be proficient using design and publishing programs, as well as social media.
  • Must have ability to effectively and clearly communicate thoughts both orally and in writing.
  • Must show initiative, creativity, and exercise sound judgment.
  • Must demonstrate confidence and the ability to motivate.
  • Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License, good driving record, and carry the proper liability insurance amounts required by The Society.
