Direct Support Professionals

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of the individuals we serve. The goal of the DSP is to assist in increasing the individual's independence within his/her home or community. The DSP should perform daily tasks that assist the individual with daily living needs.  These tasks include, but are not limited to:

  1. Personal hygiene; i.e. bathing, grooming, hair care, oral care, etc.
  2. Bathroom assistance; i.e. assistance with changes, bladder and bowel requirements
  3. Dressing; i.e. assistance putting on or taking off clothes
  4. Eating; i.e. preparing meals, preparing food to be eaten, assistance with eating, etc.
  5. Transfer; i.e. assistance in and out of wheelchairs for daily activities, etc.
  6. Ambulatory needs; i.e. assistance moving around the residence and community
  7. Household services; i.e. cleaning, cooking, laundry, etc.
  8. Medication administration; i.e. administering or assisting with medication (requires certification)
  9. Transportation; i.e. provide transportation into the community for activities, shopping, and medical appointments
  10. Basic supervision; i.e. assessing, monitoring, and supervising the individual to ensure the individual’s safety, health and welfare
  11. ISP services; i.e. provide tasks and services according to the individual’s ISP
  12. Documentation; i.e. keep documentation logs for ISP services, medication administration, activity logs, fund ledgers, and transportation, etc.
  13. Properly clock in / out for all shifts
  14. Complete documentation for all HPC questions in MITC prior to leaving your shift
  15. Review previous entries and complete entries in the communication log on each shift
  16. Report any unusual incidents to Team Lead / Team Coordinator immediately
  17. Turn in any Employee of the Month nominations


MCA Employee Requirements:

  • Must keep a valid Driver’s License and Car Insurance
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • First Aid/CPR Certificate – training provided if needed
